Our Team
We are a multidisciplinary team of young and motivated researchers, committed to the development of cell-based seafood obtained from sustainable, controlled and ethically responsible sources with no presence of antibiotics, microplastics and heavy metals
Prof Frederico Ferreira

PI of the Algae2Fish project

Frederico brings to this project know-how on tailoring biomaterials for stem cells cultivation and differentiation, electrospun fiber production, design of electroconductive scaffolds, and stem cells cultivation under electrical stimuli. He holds a PhD in Chemical engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA (Católica|Nova), with experience in promoting startups and advising on business accelerator programs.

Dr Paola Alberte

Researcher

Paola incoporated to Algae2Fish after leading a collaboration project between the University of Nottingham and the Instituto Superior Tecnico in the area of 3D bioprinting following the awarding of an EPSRC Doctoral Prize. She holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Nottingham.

Dr Carlos Rodrigues

Researcher

Carlos possesses vast expertise in systems for large-scale stem cells production, optimization of culture media, and stem cells differentiation. In 2020, he was awarded with a grant for the development of bioreactors controlled by Artificial Intelligence for upscaling Scs cultures funded by the Portuguese FCT. He holds a PhD in Bioengineering from the program MIT Portugal.

Diana Marques

Research Assistant

Diana recently graduated from a MSci in Biotechnology where her thesis inspired the Algae2Fish project. Her main focuses are the electrospinning and bioprinting of edible and conductive scaffolds obtained from algae and plants for cell agriculture applications.
